Here’s an original newspaper sidebar targeted towards Harlem readers in the early 1920s.

The Commonwealth “5″ were the first black-owned, fully-professional, all-black basketball team.

The Renaissance Cafe and Lunch Counter was one of the street-level retail spots that was part of the Renaissance Casino, Theater, and Ballroom entertainment complex at Seventh Avenue and W. 138th Street.

Advertising was even more important then as it is now, because there were few other methods of getting the word out.
