On October 13, 1910, history was made when Major A. Hart formed the first all-black play-for-pay basketball team, a new squad called the New York All Stars.

Last week marked the 81st anniversary of the sudden death of Major A. Hart, a pioneer of the Black Fives Era, on July 16, 1927.

After basketball, Hart became a Federal Prohibition Agent.
