Great article Claude. But DeHart Hubbard was from Cincinnati, not a native of Pittsburgh. His sister still lives there and his nephew is former Lt. Gov. and State Treasurer, Ken Blackweel. Blackwell’s wife is Rosa, superintendent of Cincinnati Publci Schools. I believe Hubbard attended Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati. His great nephew is my close friend from way back, Michael Shirley.

Hey sam, thanks. Yes, I’m aware that Hubbard was from Cincinnati, which is why I linked to his bio at the Cincinnati Museum. In fact, I also attended Walnut Hills High School (for junior high)! Hubbard has a whole basketball story in and of itself that’s noteworthy!

DeHart Hubbard was also a graduate of the University of Michigan and once served as a manager of the Cincinnati Stars of the Negro Leagues. He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi-the same fraternity as Edwin Henderson.
