I am glad to announce that the Kindle edition of my new book is now available on Amazon.com!

BLACK FIVES: The Alpha Physical Culture Club’s Pioneering African American Basketball Team, 1904-1923

I decided to sell it for 99¢, which is the lowest price that Amazon allows — because I want as many people as possible to read it.

You don’t need an actual Kindle reader to read a Kindle edition of an ebook.  Just download the free Kindle app to your computer, iPad, or mobile device.

What’s really cool about the Kindle edition on Amazon is that you can “Look Inside” it before making the 99¢ purchase.

The hard copy print version is coming soon — a proof copy is already on its way to me for final review.

PLEASE NOTE: Recently, I promised to make the ebook version of my book available at no cost to anyone who joined the BlackFives.com email list.

However, it turns out that 99¢ is the lowest possible price an author can set for an ebook in the world of Kindle ebook publishing. I didn’t realize this before.

That 99¢ minimum also applies to Nook ebooks available through Barnes & Noble … I am waiting to hear back from them regarding my application to join their list of authors.

The only major ebook supplier that allows free downloads is Apple, through its iBooks distribution channel. I have applied to become a participating author in this program, however, getting approved through Apple apparently takes much longer than through Amazon or B&N.

There is one other option and that is to use what is called an aggregator, but in my opinion that angle has certain drawbacks, like limitations on the quality of the book itself, and I wasn’t willing to compromise like that.

Also, offering the ebook as a download through my own website is not yet feasible since that would exceed the available bandwidth capacity, considering its file size.

Of course, you are still welcome to wait for the free iBooks version from Apple once it becomes available, and I will let you know via email as soon as that happens.

For now, at 99¢, the Kindle edition of my new book is the lowest priced option.
