Dear Reader,
Black Fives, Inc. has been fortunate and blessed with a great deal of positive attention from many different kinds of people from all corners of the globe. As a result, I receive an increasing number of requests for speaking engagements. That is great, because, as many of you already know, I just love to talk ... and talk! More significantly, I love to make a difference. I believe that my mission is to shine a light on my knowledge and experiences in order to teach, inspire, and bring people together.
The heartfelt, inspiring feedback from around the world, from ordinary and extraordinary individuals who have shared their reactions and emotions about Black Fives, has often caused me to wondere just what resonates so deeply about the Black Fives story. I have seen tears come to the eyes of grown men, upon seeing or hearing about Black Fives. Why?
There may be many possible theories and individual circumstances but I finally realized that Black Fives is a metaphor for any person or group that has ever felt left out, ever doubted their self-worth, ever feared failure or success, or ever created their own reality. Individuals, leaders, companies, and sometimes even entire communities and cultures face these same challenges -- personal roadblocks that hold them back from pursuing their passions and living their dreams. But how can we be effective leaders if we too are in our own way? Perhaps we can learn something from the pioneers of the Black Fives Era, as well as from others who overcame personal obstacles and left a lasting legacy for us all to enjoy.
Yet, statistics show otherwise. Job satisfaction is at an all time low -- nearly 75% of all employees are unhappy or unfulfilled with their work, not even taking into account compensation! On that note, I believe we are obliged to strive for greater wealth if only because it allows us to make even more of a difference in our world, at whatever level (and of course it makes for a more enjoyable life). How else to leave a legacy?
Unfortunately, studies show that most of us -- even those with the best strategies, knowledge, and work ethic (the best "tools") -- will not overcome our personal obstacles without an outside traumatic experience that forces transformation. That's because even the best tool box (the psychology of one's mind) is useless if it contains broken or ineffective tools that would otherwise condemn us to struggle forever. Unless ... we actively pursue personal transformation and growth through seminars, workshops, and other experiential activities designed to reprogram our blueprints about success (fix the tools, learn how to properly use them, or acquire new ones).
