Early two-sport star Everett “Ziggy” Marcell was born September 1, 1916 in New Orleans.  Marcell played professional basketball with the Los Angeles Red Devils, alongside Jackie Robinson, and pro baseball in the Negro Leagues.

Bernie Price, a star with the Harlem Globetrotters and New York Rens, was born on September 20, 1915.  Price helped integrate the National Basketball League in 1941 as a member of the mixed-race Chicago Studebakers.

Chuck Cooper, the first African American to be drafted by an N.B.A. team (the Celtics, in 1950) was born in Pittsburgh on September 29, 1926.

John Isaacs, a star player for the New York Rens, Washington Bears, and other professional teams, was born on September 30, 1915.
