Unique Photo Exhibit Helps Grow Black Fives Community Fund

On January 25, 2010, in Basic, Being, Community, Culture, Goodwill, by Black Fives

A unique photo exhibit helps grow the new Black Fives Community Fund, which benefits the neighborhoods where original Black Fives basketball teams once played.

Exhibit Opens This Saturday!

One of my hobbies is photography. Now I’ve found a way to tie that into my passion about the Black Fives Era!

But first, let me explain.  I like to photograph the tiny hidden details of ordinary flower blossoms and plants.  Some call it photomicrography.  My photos are a “bee’s eye view,” if you will.

The Flower Of Now Photo Collection

Some images from the photo exhibit called "The Flower of Now," benefiting the Black Fives Community Fund.

I became inspired by flowers because they remind me of people.  Just like people, some plants are considered “weeds,” but if we look more closely they may reveal an unseen paradise, a “Garden of Eden” right there for all to see.

They also remind me of life, because you can only enjoy life right now, not next week, or last week. So they inspire consciousness and awareness.

These photos, in turn, are meant to stir something from within, even out of the seemingly ordinary.

This exhibit came about because whenever I showed these to people they would always say, “Wow, these are incredible!” So a took some to get framed, and the frame shop said, “Wow, these are incredible! You should show these!”

So here I am, showing them!

How Could Flowers Relate To The Black Fives Era??

Well, they can’t.  Not directly.  But, what if I devote a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this art to the new Black Fives Community Fund, which benefits neighborhoods where original Black Fives Era basketball teams once played?

Why not allow my inspired efforts to benefit a worthy cause? So that’s what I decided to do.

Just as paradise may be found in weeds, so can the forgotten history of the Black Fives Era reveal many treasures.

One man’s weeds are another man’s “Eden.” So be it.

That’s how these two very different ideas are connected. In my own mind, anyway! :-)

Details About The Exhibited Art

All the images displayed are high-resolution 24″ by 36″ enlargements mounted and framed for archival conservation, behind UV-protected glass, using acid- and lignon-free cotton rag mat, with acid-free dry mounting, within authentic handmade wooden spline-corner museum-quality Concerto frames.

These are exquisite.

A selection of smaller, unframed, matted photographs from the collection will also be available in various standard sizes.

Prices allow accessibility for a wide range of budgets.

Special sizes, matting, and/or framing will be available upon request.
