Vote For Most Experienced Candidate (In Basketball, That Is)

On January 29, 2008, in Basic, Culture, Humor, Politics, Women, by Black Fives

Experience matters. In basketball, that is.

Experience matters. In basketball, that is.

In the 2008 Presidential Election (and primaries), vote for the candidate with the strongest record. In basketball, that is.

But who’s it gonna be?

You can tell a lot about the candidates by how they play ball. Or claim to play. Or even IF they play.

It’s a law that applies on every hoop court in the world.

So, I dug up some archival interviews and clips to help you decide.

Clinton

Here, Hillary Clinton claims she plays pickup basketball.

Obama

Barack ObamaBarack Obama.

Here’s Obama’s brother-in-law, Brown University basketball coach Craig Robinson, discussing what the way you play basketball says about you.

Here’s Obama at a gym in Iowa.

Edwards

Here’s John Edwards discussing his basketball knowledge.

Romney

Here’s Mitt Romney making basketball his state’s official sport.

Here’s Romney claiming he can “post up” against Obama.

Giuliani

No evidence of any record or experience in basketball.

McCain

Here’s some commentary on his picks for the 2007 N.C.A.A. basketball tournament.

Huckabee

His wife played basketball in high school.

You be the judge!

Even though Obama has skillz, I give Romney credit for taking a basketball position legally in Massachusetts, home of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Edwards might win a hoops trivia contest though.

  2. haha! yo, claude, you’re hilarious, b! this is genius!

i’ll share a dean ‘the dream’ meminger quote, “If you don’t play ball, you can’t hang.” He’s a former Knick and was All-American at Rice HS and Marquette with Pro Rucker credentials, too.

Hey Bob, lucky for Obama that Bill Bradley isn’t running! I knew you’d enjoy Hillary’s pickup ball claim and the playground ball scenes from his brother-in-law’s NY Times clip. I was trying to identify that court …

That’s right, Meminger was a Harlem native that made good but I don’t think he gets enough publicity and I bet a lot of people don’t even know he was part of those great teams. Thanks for the quote and the look!

ITO, I agree! At least Romney is introducing basketball as one of the issues! :-)

Not sure about who the winner is, but the analysis of how you play basketball is interesting. I can see that for most anything. As they say, how you do anything is how you do everything. So sometimes taken someone out of their arena of having to present, being poised, saying the right things to an activity that is spontaneous and in the moment can really reveal true colors.

I’m continuously tickled, inspired and moved by your offerings her on this blog.
